Caption Competition Results

A week or so ago we asked you all to offer up your best captions for this picture – and were absolutely inundated with responses both here and on Facebook. Poor old Brian was given the task of creating a shortlist and, after not an inconsiderable amount of time one night, he whittled more than 150 suggestions down to just seven to put before the rest of the team to vote on independently. After…

Photo Competition: The Results

Photo Competition: The Results

Winning photo All five of us judged this competition independently yesterday, then pooled our results to come up with the overall winner. The competition was of a very high standard and we all very much enjoyed our role as judges. We gave two scores for each entry: one for the strangest/far flung theme and the other for the technical standard of the shot. In the end first and second place wer…

Competition Deadline Looms, See Flickr for Entries So Far

Thank you to everyone who has sent in their entry for the photo competition so far. As you can see from our Flicker pages, there are lots of excellent photos from some fairly far out places, so choosing a winner is not going to be easy for the Ice Team (visit http://www.flickr.com/photos/thecoldestjourney/sets/72157634712782950/ to see them). If you would like to enter the competition and stand a…

Jazz Hands Winner

Jazz Hands Winner

You might remember that about three months ago we ran a light-hearted Jazz Hands competition. The idea was borne after Ice Team member Ian Prickett’s impromptu decision to pull the pose at the start line. Well, there have been some successful competitions along the way (the on-going photo competition to win Sir Ranulph’s Montana jacket is a case in point – check here to see an album of entries…

Competition Time: Win Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ Montane Jacket

Today we are offering you the chance to win Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ Montane jacket in our latest photo competition. It is the actual jacket which he wore on The Coldest Journey expedition (see image) before he was forced home with frostbite and is therefore a genuine artefact of polar exploration history. The Ice Team are currently camping in perhaps the most remote place in the world. So our…

An explanation… by Brian Newham

An explanation... by Brian Newham

Believe it or not I am in ‘the tent’ trying to use the GPR. With me inside the tent is an insulated plastic box which we modified to house the GPR and several hot water bottles to try and keep the unit warm. The tent is trying to shelter me from a 30 knot wind and keep the drifting snow off the GPR unit. It worked to a limited extent but it was pretty uncomfortable and very hard to use the GPR…
