The great explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton was buried at Grytviken on the sub-Antarctic island off South Georgia, at the request of his widow Emily. On 27 November 2011, the ashes of another lauded explorer, Frank Wild, were interred on the right-hand side of Shackleton’s grave site.
