Another White Out Halts Progress

The Ice Team is stuck in the middle of a blizzard at S71 22′ 22.4″, E023 36′ 27.8″ with near-zero visibility and gusts over 50 knots. In conditions like these it is impractical and too dangerous to carry on and so the team have to make do huddled up in the living caboose together. The conditions also hamper communications, but we will provide more updates as soon as we have news from the team.

I have been keeping up with the journey since you left South Africa, looking at the pictures and videos. I am really enjoying it and I want to go there someday.I have been creating a book about Antarctica for school. I have a question-Do you have to dig the machines out again after this white out?

Hello George, Thank you for a good question – The answer is definitely yes! All machines including the CATs, sledges and fuel scoots in the Ice Train will need digging out wherever there’s a snow and windy mix!. The drifting is considerable, it won’t melt or get blown away. The Ice Team are higher and it is cooler now as they make their way up towards the plateau. Best wishes, Rosie at Operations HQ

Hi Guys and Mary Mouse, Been away on holiday in the highlands of Scotland for 3 weeks, had no broadband or mobile so have not been able to follow the progress. I have really missed the blog and I have just spend a couple of hours reading up on what I have missed, may the weather gods be with you, stay safe, only take calculated risks and god speed. I will be following you ever step of the way.

We wanted to also express our appreciation for your efforts to raise the $10 million for preventable blindness. Diane has glaucoma and we are especially appreciative of all efforts to help those who suffer from eye diseases.
