Steve is an engineer who had worked with Sir Ranulph Fiennes since the mid-eighties. During their first project together, Steve was working at BAe Space Systems which had manufactured amphibious Kevlar sleds for the Arctic. Since then he has regularly assisted with equipment design and testing. Using skills picked up in the Parachute Regiment he has also run selection and training programmes for both expeditions and multi-day adventure races on behalf of Sir Ranulph. For this coming venture Steve headed up the Cold Weather Equipment Development group (made up of Mac Mackenney, Russell Thompson, Geoff Long, Abi Holland and Steven Seaton) and the selection procedure for the mechanics. Steve’s day job is running SJH Projects Ltd, a company that specialises in explosive blast protection. Supporting expeditions for Sir Ranulph and others is a sideline that keeps Steve in touch with the more adventurous aspects of life.
